The article presents a review of the scientific literature devoted to the study of the state of depression in workers of sea and river transport, presents the results of a study of the severity, features of the depressive state in university students of the specialty of sea and river transport. The study was conducted using observation methods, interviews, Zung Self-Rating Depression Scale methods, adapted at the Department of Addictions of Bekhtereva Balashova Research Institute. It was revealed that junior students more often than senior students experience a state of heightened mood, confidence in positive life prospects, hopes for their own future, less likely to experience states of depression and unwarranted anxiety. They more often manifested a state of depression of a situational or neurotic genesis. Subdepressive state, elements of masked depression were found to a greater extent in senior students, which indicates the need for psychocorrectional assistance for this category of students to develop persistent traits that allow individuals to resist the stressful pressure experienced during long voyages, maintaining a positive vitality, mental health in general. A study of the state of depressed among students specializing in river and sea transport indicates a verifiable presence of a certain range of properties: periods of low mood, irritability, a tendency to get upset more often on minor occasions than prior. Statements about the desire to be as lucky as the majority of others. The tendency to feel anxiety regarding experienced difficulties, to return and re-live past experiences, without the ability to change anything due to objective reasons. The presence of periods of decline in productivity. The found characteristics signal a reduction in the adaptive capacity of students in the diagnosed clinical circle, the need for additional research on the psycho-emotional sphere of seafarers.
