Abstract

The article is dedicated to the theoretical analysis of the concept of interpersonal communication, its main characteristics and peculiar features. The article reviews the peculiar features of the influence of communication on the functioning of individuals of early old age, and the peculiar features of interpersonal communication of this age category. The results of the empirical research are indicative of the level and orientation of the need for communication, a sense of loneliness and adaptability that affect the functioning of individuals of early old age. The obtained empirical data are calculated by the method of mathematical statistics and the analysis of the results: percentage and quantitative analysis (Pearson’s correlation coefficient), which shows the correlation of the obtained characteristics. The obtained results can be used when working with individuals of early old age in the framework of increasing their productivity through correction of those components that determine interpersonal communication; in the prospect of using self-education and educational activities in order to provide practical help to individuals of early old age by practicing psychologists, and to be used in the activities of psychological service workers.

The problem of interpersonal communication of the individual is one of the fundamental ones in psychological science, and therefore the demand for it remains in place throughout the history of psychology. The urgency of this problem is determined by its high importance in solving the most important issues of constructive development and functioning of the individual, on the one hand, and the lack of theoretical and empirical research in this scientific field on the other hand.

Communication forms the process of interaction between individuals and social groups, in which social experience is transmitted and assimilated, a change in the structure and essence of interacting entities occurs, a variety of human identities are formed, and a person's socialization takes shape.
