Abstract

The article defines the concept of the symptom complex of handicap in people with disabilities and presents the author's method of diagnosing this complex. The questionnaire standardization procedure is presented, which includes checking its validity, reliability and representativeness. The methodology consists of 151 questions, which are aimed at diagnosing handicap as a psychological complex of the individual, which causes rejection of oneself, a feeling of one's own inferiority due to an existing physical or physiological defect. The questionnaire has 7 scales that allow you to analyze the structure, manifestations and features of the handicap symptom complex and to reveal the degree of its severity. The questionnaire is designed for work with disabled individuals who do not have mental developmental disabilities. The questionnaire can be used to diagnose people of different age groups, starting from high school age, who have various forms of disability. Questionnaire questions break the content of seven diagnostic indicators - scales: "Embarrassment", "Depression", "Anxiety", "Fear", "Self-loathing", "Self-rejection", "Self-isolation". The standardization procedure is shown, which allows us to claim that the questionnaire meets such requirements for psychometric procedures as validity, reliability and representativeness, and can be used for objective diagnosis of the symptom complex of handicap in disabled people.

The examination can be conducted orally or in writing, depending on the nosology of the disabled person. It can also be both individual and group. The examination has no time limit, but is mainly designed for 20-30 minutes.

Sufficient effectiveness of the presented methodology in practice has been proven, as evidenced by the results of its use in the preparation of a dissertation for obtaining a scientific degree and the materials for its implementation in the work practice of a number of institutions whose activities are related to work with disabled people.
